Brittany Mahomes Encourages Caitlin Clark to Shake Off the Haters Amid WNBA Journey

Give it up for the athletes who scored a win at the2024 ESPYS.

The annual award show—which celebrates the biggest names in sports—aired live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles July 11, and even hostSerena Williams couldn't believe the star power in the room. (Click here to see all the celebs on the red carpet.)

Going into the night, WNBA standoutCaitlin Clarklead the way with three nominations for Best Athlete, Femaleas well asBest Record-Breaking Performance and Best College Athlete, Women's Sports.

But not too far behind her were Kansas City Chiefs quarterbackPatrick Mahomesand MLB starShohei Ohtani, each hoping to pick up a second win for Best Athlete, Men's Sports for a chance to joinLeBron James,Lance ArmstrongandTiger Woodsas the only athletes to win the category multiple times.

It was also a big night for first time nomineeCoco Gauff, with the reigning U.S. Open title holder nominated alongside Clark for Best Athlete, Women's Sports—golferNelly Kordaand basketball starA'ja Wilsonround out the category—as well as going up against fellow tennis starsCarlos Alcaraz,Novak DjokovicandIga Swiatekfor Best Tennis Player.

Other first time nominees during the big event included those in the Best Breakthrough Athlete category: USC basketball playerJujuWatkins, LSU gymnstHaleighBryant, Houston Texans football playerC.J. Stroudand San Antonio Spurs'VictorWembanyama.

But it wasn't just the sports pros bringing the star power to the room. Even royalty made an appearance withPrince Harryreceivingthe 2024 Pat Tillman Award for Service, an award created in 2014 to honor the former NFL player who left the sport to serve in the U.S. military after 9/11 and was killed by friendly fire in 2004 at the age of 27, for his work with the Invictus Games.
